~ No other U.S. president is being held to account for a variety of criminal wrongdoings than the celebrity-turned-politician Donald J. Trump, "fortunately or unfortunately" the 45th president of the world's most powerful country. Over two years of investigation by Fulton County (Georgia) District Attorney Fani Willis culminated Monday (Aug. 14) in the indictment of Trump - his fourth - and 18 of his associates for attempting to overturn the 2020 election in the state that now-President Joe Biden won.

TORONTO - Today, we bear witness to the unfolding of history in the United States - the criminal indictment of the 45th president, Donald J. Trump, in the State of Georgia over his attempts to overturn the 2020 election in the state that Joe Biden won.

It was the first in U.S. history that a former president is being criminally charged, for a fourth time at that! He's also held to account for acts committed in New York State, Florida, and Washington DC. (Related video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4QcHs7GX2A&t=16s).

Eighteen others were indicted by a Grand Jury in a criminal conspiracy outlining 161 criminal acts, including Rudy Giuliani, his former lawyer; John Eastman, a conservative lawyer; and Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff. Of those acts, Trump accounted for 13 counts.

His co-defendants include Jeffrey Clark, a former Justice Department official; conservative lawyers Sidney Powell, and Jenna Ellis; Kenneth John Chesebro, Ray Stallings Smith III, Robert David Cheeley, Michael A. Roman, David James Shafer, Shawn Micah Tresher Still, Stephen Cliffgard Lee, Harrison William Prescott Floyd, Trevian C. Kutti, Cathleen Alston Latham, Scott Graham Hall, and Misty Hampton.

The group, according to the indictment released late Monday (August 14) night in Fulton County, Georgia, is "a criminal organization whose members and associates engaged in various related criminal activities including, but not limited to, false statements and writings, impersonating a public officer, forgery, filing false documents, influencing witnesses, computer theft, computer trespass, computer invasion of privacy, conspiracy to defraud the state, acts involving theft, and perjury."

The indictment charges Trump with the following felony counts: Violating Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act; Three counts of solicitation of violation of oath by public officer; Conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer; Conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree; Conspiracy to commit false statements and writings; Two counts of conspiracy to commit filing false documents; Conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree; and Two counts of false statements and writings; and filing false documents.

Fani Willis, the District Attorney of Fulton County, said all the defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

As in three other felony cases against him in New York State, Florida, and Washington DC, Trump has denied any wrongdoing.

Shortly after the indictment was announced, Trump attacked Willis in his social media account as "an out of control and very corrupt District Attorney".

Willis said arrest warrants have been issued for all the defendants who were given up to 12 noon of August 25 to surrender. (Copyright 2023. All Rights Reserved).
