Shortlisted for 2024 Toronto Book Awards

TORONTO - Jennilee Austria-Bonifacio's Reuniting with Strangers is among five books shortlisted for the 2024 Toronto Book Awards, the City of Toronto and Toronto Public Library (TPL) announced today, Sept. 5.

Established by Toronto City Council in 1974, the awards honour books of literary merit that are inspired by Toronto and offer $15,000 in total prize money, with $10,000 to the winner and $1,000 to each shortlisted finalist, according to TPL.

A total of 116 submissions that reflected the creativity and diversity of the city’s literary community has been received this year by the Toronto Book Awards.

Jennilee Austria-Bonifacio is a writer, speaker, researcher, journalist, settlement worker, youth mentor, Little Manila tour guide, communications coordinator, and founder of Filipino Talks.



She has a BA in International Studies from Trent University and an MA in Immigration and Settlement Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University, and a post-graduate certificate from the Humber School for Writers. She completed a 2019 Emerging Writers Intensive program at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity."

TPL said the titles selected for the 2024 shortlist are:

- Reuniting with Strangers by Jennilee Austria-Bonifacio (Douglas & Mcintyre)

- The Roosting Box by Kristen Den Hartog (Goose Lane)

- The Rasmussen Papers by Connie Gault (Thistledown Press)

- The Suicide Magnet by Paul McLaughlin (Dundurn)

- I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together by Maurice Vellekoop (Random House Canada)
